3.1 Three-stranded braid

The hair is divided into two strands at the backside of the head.

The first strand is fixed with rubber band.

Fix both strands at each side of the head with rubber band.
Cut the rubber band and remove it after you have finished.

Each strand is divided in three smaller strands.
It can also be done by hand, a tool is not necessary.

After dividing each strand into three smaller ones they are braided alternately.
Put the first strand over the second strand.

Then cross strand 3 with strand 1.

Cross strand 3 with strand 2.

Then cross strand 1 with strand 3.

Repeat the braiding described above until you reach the end of the hair strands.

Secure the braided hair with a rubber band.
Use a rubber band of your taste.

Now the braiding is almost finished.

The rubber band at the base of the braid is cut and removed.

Completion.
After finishing the braids the "scalp" is showing at the back of the head. This is because the hair has been planted in a straight manner, without a parting at the back of the head.
If you intend to braid the hair you have to set the hair with a parting from the front to the back of the head. How to set the hair with a parting will be described in the next section.

3.2 Setting the hair.

1. Material and tools.
The use of a strong needle, as used for making stuffed animals, is recommended. The needle and the tools depicted in the photograph can be purchased in any handicrafts shop.
(It can be purchased in the handicraft store.)
A variety of artificial hair is available at Noix De Rome.

2. Preparing the head.
Cut the hair very short.

Pull the hair from inside the head by inserting the pliers through the opening in the neck.

Tip: You can create a different hairstyle by removing only a part of the old hair and replacing it with hair of another color or different length.

3. Hair setting.
Use only a few hairs at the time, pass them through the eye of the needle and stitch them to the head as shown in the photograph.
It is recommended to use artificial hair from our collection. The hair is already arranged in strands ready to be implanted.
Tip: If you wet the hair it becomes easier to handle.

Push the needle through the top of the head and pull it out through the opening in the neck as shown in the photograph.

Secure the strand of hair by making a knot.
Besides securing the hair strand with a simple knot you can also use a chain stitch to secure it.

4.How to set a parting
When you set the hair from the front to the back of the head, change the direction of each strand alternately.
This picture gives you an example how to set each hair strand. However, to achieve a perfect look you have to set the hair strands closer to each other!

5. Example
This photograph gives you an example for a head with a ponytail and a two-tail, using hair from Noix De Rome's collection.

Please note how the front hair has been set in alternate directions to avoid the occurrence of gaps between the strands.

In this photograph you can see the difference between the hairlines for the front hair (above, alternate direction) and the main part of the ponytail. For the main part each hair strands are set very close and in one direction.

If you want to make two ponytails on each side of the head you have to set a parting from the front until the back of the head as shown in the photograph.

3.3 Hot water permanent perm.

1. Material

Before starting with the permanent perm we recommend to try the process with a few strands of leftover hair. This gives you a good opportunity to get familiar with the entire process to follow.
To avoid possible disappointments you should only use artificial hair from Noix De Rome. Different products may result in difficulties to achieve the desired effect or may not suitable for permanent perm.

2. Materials
A thin wooden rod to make hair curlers.
 Rubber band.
 Wrapping material (e.g. cellophane wrapping)

A thin rod smoothed with sandpaper and cut into appropriate length for use as hair curler.

Cut a small piece of paper.
You can use any kind of paper, e.g. silk paper, tissue paper or kitchen paper.
Here, ordinary kitchen paper is used.

3. Prepare the hair for the perm.
The hair is wound around the hair curler.
Change the thickness in accordance with the size made to have a curl.
According to the desired size of the curls take an appropriate strand of hair, straighten it out and wrap the hair tips with the sheet of paper.

Now wind the strand of hair around the hair curler, turn the hair curler upwards and secure it with a rubber band.

4. Perm
Heat water in a large pot and allow it to boil for approximately 20 minutes.
Be careful not to touch the rim of the pot with the hair, it will burn!

Wrap the head carefully in cellophane foil and submerge the head in the boiling water.

After the heat-treatment remove the cellophane foil and allow the hair to dry before removing the hair curlers.

5. Completion
Make final corrections by cutting protruding hair strands, arranging the hairdo according to your taste and fix the hairdo with hair spray, just do what your hairdresser would do.
